Myvi-Best Car in Malaysia

The Perodua Myvi has been the best-selling model in the national car brand segment ever since its launch back in year 2005. It has sold more than 800,000 units to date, and Perodua plans to break the 1 million mark by next year. It is popular as a first car for young adults, and remains so even when compared to other competitors. The Perodua Myvi recently received a facelift along with other models in the Perodua stable. The prices start at RM41,000 for the base G variant and goes up to RM58,000 for the Advance variant.

The basic Myvi comes with a 1.3L engine which produces 90 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 117 Nm of torque @ 4400 RPM. In the SE variant, it is equipped with a 1.5L engine which produces 102 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 136 Nm of torque @ 4400 RPM. Both engines are carried over from the pre-facelift Myvi, adding on the e-AT transmission. The gearbox in the e-AT transmission is individually controlled by another unit for improved fuel efficiency.

Safety wise, the Myvi only comes with 2 airbags as standard across the range. If you want to have ABS, you will need to stretch your budget and get the X Premium variant. The G and the X Premium variants share the same multi reflector headlamp and a subtle bodykit design, whereas the SE and Advance variants use projector headlamps with LED guide lights and a sportier bodykit.

The Myvi is a step up from the Axia with bigger interior and boot space. Aside from that, it also has bigger engine capacity for those who find the Axia underwhelming in power. The Myvi has been a faithful first car for many, and it still manages to capture hearts and wallets in its latest generation.

Axia- Great Car

Perodua Axia is the most affordable car you can buy in Malaysia. Prices start from only RM25,000 for the most affordable variant, the Standard E variant, and peaks at RM 42,000 for the top variant, Advance variant. That’s less than the price of some decent motorcycles. The Axia comes with a little puny 1.0L engine, which produces 66 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 90 Nm of torque @ 3600 RPM. Not bad for a quick city run or a drive around town with your family in the car. As for the interior, the Perodua Axia boasts similar space to the Perodua Myvi despite being an A segment car. Its boot space accommodates up to 4 travelling suitcases.

In the safety department, the Axia comes with only 2 SRS Airbags across the range. If you need the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), you’ll have to get the Axia SE variant at RM37,000. If you’re in for a bare basic car, the E variant or G variant will suit you fine. You also get a more sporty fascia for the SE or Advance variants compared to the E and G variants.

The Axia is qualified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV). This means its manufactured using environmental-friendly equipment and materials for tax reduction, allowing for the use of the 1.0L engine across the variants instead of smaller engines for the cheaper variants.

The Axia is an excellent choice for first time car buyers as the price tag is very affordable, even for students or fresh grads in their first job. The maintenance is relatively low as well. As for driving, it’s easy to maneuver around city traffic and great for parking. Overall, we’d say it’s good enough given the low price tag.

First Car

After graduating from a college or university, or even school, there are many questions to answer. Where do you go? What do you do? What’s for lunch? And of course, there’s the question of which car to get after you’ve landed yourself a stable job. You need something that’s easy to maintain with low monthly payments and low fuel consumption. However, you don’t want a car that breaks down easily or looks ugly

Malaysian Cars

"The rapid growth of the economy and the high purchasing power of its population have made Malaysia the largest passenger car market in ASEAN. At the same time, the establishment of national car projects, PROTON and PERODUA, has transformed Malaysia from a mere motor car assembler into a car manufacturer. The industry has boosted the development of engineering, auxiliary and supporting industries and contributed to skills development and the upgrading of technological and engineering capabilities. These factors have further enhanced the attractiveness of Malaysia as a base for global automotive manufacturers

Tips to Avoid Taxi Scams

Tips to Avoid Kuala Lumpur Taxi Scams and Know Difference between Budget & Executive Taxis

Getting around by taxi around Kuala Lumpur can be a very convenient and affordable option (especially if you are travelling in a group of 2-3) as long as you are travelling on a budget taxi which agrees to charge you the metered fare.
Unfortunately, the taxi experience in Kuala Lumpur is a hit and miss one as Kuala Lumpur taxis are notorious for refusing to turn on their taxi meters and are quite likely to ask for a flat fee to bring you to your destination.
Our taxi experience during our recent Kuala Lumpur trip was a relatively pleasant one – of the 6 taxi trips, 2 were fixed coupon prices (more on this later), 3 were metered fares and only 1 tried to quote us a flat fee (which we refused and the taxi driver eventually agreed to turn on the meter).  If you understand how the taxi industry work and the taxi price differentiation and some tips to ensure you get a fair taxi price, you should be in for a quite a smooth taxi ride around Kuala Lumpur
